MP visits Park School
Keen cyclist and Member of Parliament visits Park School cyclists Keen cyclist Sarah Wollaston (Totnes MP) visited Park School to find out about some of the fun cycling events held at the school. The children gave her a short talk about their cycle trips into Totnes from Dartington, trips to the steam train, obstacle races, art projects and safety lessons. They told her that they can bring a bike to school every day and cycle it around their extensive school grounds. The children enjoyed talking with her and finding out about the Houses of Parliament and how democracy works. ‘As a Human Scale school we have our roots in Democratic Education so it was a really interesting conversation to have with the children’ Says Amanda Bellamy (Teacher in charge). Sarah was given a tour of the school-including the newly won classroom- and left with pears and apples from our orchard. She was even given an invitation from one of our youngest children to come for a bike ride with her! She, in return, has given the school an invitation to visit the Houses of Parliament and hold a debate. ‘It will be an exciting trip which I can’t wait to be part of’ said Mark Maynard, teacher.
