Apple day celebration!!

Homegrown Harvest café gives tsunami victims support!

The children have enjoyed harvesting a bumper crop of fruit and vegetables this week.  At a special Apple Day celebration they toasted the biodiversity of their organic crops with songs ,artwork, poetry ,and jam making. The food from their school garden and orchard was made into a delicious soup, apple cakes or pressed into 130 litres of apple juice which was sold at their café to raise money for a charity chosen by the children. This year the children chose to give the money to their twin school Hinidumgoda, in Sri Lanka where the 26th December Indian Ocean tsunami killed over 40,000 people, making 1200 children orphans. The school is part of the Adopt Sri Lanka Project  which aims to make a lasting and tangible difference to the communities whose lives were devastated.
