Cultures meet to make dancing music
An Arts Council creative project combining an opportunity to explore distinct musical traditions of Mbira and its integral dance (from the Shona tradition of Zimbabwe) and the tradition of the classical String Quartet was offered to Park School last week. The children worked with Chartwell (a world class musician from Zimbabwe), Denise Rowe (a professional choreographer ) and a wonderful String Quartet to create a unique dance and song which some children performed at the weekend. Chartwell often comes into Park School. He has fun showing how music can cross cultural boundaries and generate ways of developing dialogue between people from diverse cultures. This project has been another great example of this.
