School news -April 2011

School News no.254 Wednesday 27 April 2011 Welcome back to the summer term.  This is always my favourite term at Park as it is full of walks, games outside, camps, bike rides, canoeing and all sorts of outdoor things.  And the yurt goes up!

Our first school event of the term is the Spring Celebration on Wednesday 4 May at 2pm.  All the children (and parents!) are invited to dress up in spring colours or as creatures and parade around the school to wake up the earth.  We will also have a naming circle, a little bit of singing and officially open our new herb garden which the children and students from Schumacher College designed and made last term.  There will be a café open at 3pm.  Please be here to collect your children promptly as they are the parent’s responsibility after this time. Please see under the covered way for the sign up list.

At 7.30pm on 4 May there will be a meeting for any parents who wish to talk further to staff or the council about the new structure next September.  Please fill in and send back the slip at the end of this school news by 3pm on 3 May.

I do hope that you managed to see the beautiful end of term play – A Midsummer Nights Dream.  Mark’s class wrote the most fantastic version of Shakespeare’s timeless story.  The children shone with confidence and enthusiasm throughout the show which captured so many of their individual characters, showing their creativity, beauty, humour and (especially for the solo’s) courage.  The show and delicious Swedish food made by the children with our Swedish student raised £311.39 which will be put into the fundraising fund.  DVD’s available soon!

There has been a huge amount of energy, debate and research about the Early Years climbing frame and garden.  Bridie, Tina, and Helen all now want to keep the frame that Martin has fixed.  The money raised will be spent on improving what is there already by adding a new net and a bark area.  A new lid for the sandpit, which may form seating, will also be made shortly.  This work should happen this term!

We have a number of free tickets for the Circus that comes to Torquay on 10 May at 7pm. Please come to the office if you are interested.  First come, first served.

This is the final term for our eldest children.  I am sure that there are some very mixed emotions around but I am also sure that they are beginning to get excited about their next school.  Kevicc is having an Induction day on 23 June and Sands is having a trial week starting on 11 May.

Thank you for all of your quality jumble, delicious cakes and support with the Jumble Sale.  It was a fantastically well attended event and took £571.30 towards school funds.  I am sure that our name got out into Totnes with all the postcards made by Drum and the encouragement by Johnny.

I wanted to remind you about the Visitors Book in the hall.  This is a fire safety regulation.  It should really be called ‘Anyone who is not a member of staff or a child at Park who is staying longer than drop off sign out book’, as I am sure you don’t see yourself as a visitor.  However I guess that is rather a long title so Visitors Book it is.  Please sign in if you are staying longer than normal drop off e.g. cup of tea in the kitchen or helping out in the classrooms.  Could I also remind you that due to the CRB regulations adults can only stay unsupervised if they have a CRB cleared by Park.

There will be parent/teacher meetings  this half term. Look on classroom doors for the dates.Provisional class lists will be available from 12 May on you child’s class door.

Some other dates…..

  • Strawberry Fair 16 July
  • Bike Week 20-24 June.  Please could all children in main school have a bike in good working order and a good fitting safety helmet.  Volunteers are needed to do bike maintenance on 20 and 21, 8.45-10am.  Please let Amanda know if you can help.
  • I have had a number of requests for school photographs and have asked a professional photographer to come into the main school on 5 May to take class and individual photographs.  20% of the costs will be donated to school funds.  I hope that you will enjoy the results!  You are under no obligation to buy.
  • Sports Day – A team event but with some competitive races at the end (for everyone!)  See  green board for details

Let’s hope this lovely weather continues.  Please could your child bring in a named towel which is easily recognizable and a change of clothes for water play.  We recommend sunhats and suncream already applied at home every day!

If you have any good quality tools you no longer need we would be very grateful to take them on – please talk to Ben.

Best wishes,

Amanda Bellamy (Teacher in Charge)
