Teachers guide all children to independent reading, using approaches appropriate to the individual. Specialist help is provided for those children who need it. In their writing, children are encouraged to write freely from the beginning and to become more accurate and organised, for example in spelling, hand writing and presentation, as their work develops.A broad range of literary approaches including phonics is used throughout the school to help children with reading and writing skills. Self expression is encouraged for example through making presentations both orally and in writing.
